• Aeronautical Ground Light : 항공기에 장착된 자체 등화를 제외하고, 항공 운항 지원을 위한 모든 등화 시설.
• Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) : 항공 운항에 필수적인 영속적인 성격의 항공 정보를 포함하는 국가 또는 국가 권한으로 발행되는 간행물. 
• Aeronautical Meteorological Station : 국제 항공 운항에 사용하기 위해 기상을 관측하여 통보하도록 지정된 관측소.
• Aeronautical Mobile Service : 항공 기지국(aeronautical station)과 항공기국(aircraft station) 상호 간 또는 항공기국 간의 이동 서비스(mobile service)로써, 구조용 항공기국도 참여할 수 있음. 즉, 비상 위치 무선 표지국(radio beacon station)들도 지정된 조난 및 비상 주파수로 이 서비스에 참여할 수 있음.
• Aeronautical Radio Incorporated (ARINC) : 가입(요금) 기준으로 이용 가능한 공대지 통신을 제공하는 국제 무선 네트워크. (ARINC는 미국의 항공사들이 주요 주주로 되어 있는 법인체로, 그 외의 주주로서는 항공기 제작사, 기타 운송업체 및 외국 항공사들이 있음. 워싱턴 DC에 본부를 두고, 항공사들을 위한 전 세계적인 통신 채널을 제공하는 여러 개의 지상 무선국을 운영하고 있음. ARINC는 항공사들의 기술진으로 구성된 항공사 전자 기술 위원회(AEEC)와 유럽의 또 다른 항공사 전자 기술 위원회(EAEC)를 후원하고 있음. 이들 두 위원회는 실제적으로 'Equipment Characteristics(장비 특성)'을 설정함으로써 항공사들이 요구하는 세부 기술 기준을 장비 제작사들에게 제시하는 역할도 함. 이는 곧 항공사가 ARINC 기준을 충족하는 장비만을 구입하도록 하는 것을 의미하지는 않으나, ARINC 기준을 벗어나는 장비는 사실상 거의 탑재되지 않고 있음.)
• Aeronautical Station : 항공 이동 업무를 수행하는 육상 기지국. 경우에 따라 항공 기지국(aeronautical station)은 선박이나 해상 구조물 등에 위치할 수도 있음. 
• Aeronautical Telecommunication Service : 모든 항공 업무 목적을 위해 제공되는 통신 업무(서비스). (AFTN 및 전문 자동 배분 시스템을 이용하여 비행계획, 기상정보 및 항공고시전문의 송수신.)
• Aeronautical Telecommunication Station : 항공 통신 서비스(aeronautical telecommunication service)에 있는 기지국.
• Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS) : 조종사에게 SSR transponder를 장착한 항공기와의 잠재적 충돌에 관한 조언을 제공하는 장비로써, 지상 장비와 독립적으로 운영되며 SSR(2차 감시 레이더; Secondary Surveillance Radar) transponder 신호를 기반으로 하여 작동하는 항공기 시스템. (1994년 1월 1일 이후 미주지역을 취항하는 항공기는 이 장치를 장착하도록 의무화하고 있음.) 
• Aircraft : 지구 표면에 대한 공기의 반작용보다는 공기의 반응으로부터 대기 중에 떠있을 수 있도록 고안된 기계.
• Aircraft Address : 지대공 통신, 항행 및 감시 목적으로 항공기에 할당하여 사용할 수 있는 24비트의 고유한 조합.
• Aircraft Approach Category (USA TERPS) : 지정된 경우 Vref 속도에 기반한 항공기 그룹 또는 Vref가 지정되지 않은 경우 최대 착륙 중량에서 Vso의 1.3배. Vref, Vso 및 최대 착륙 중량은 동록 국가의 인증 기관이 항공기에 대해 설정한 값. 항공기는 하나의 category에만 속해야 함. 만약 해당 category의 속도 범위 상한을 초과하는 속도로 조작이 이루어져야 한다면, 다음 상위 등급 category의 최솟값(minimum)을 사용해야 함. 예를 들어 category A에 속하지만 91 knots를 초과하는 속도로 circling to land 하려는 항공기는 approach category B의 minimum을 사용해 circling to land 해야 함. 범주는 다음과 같음.

• Airborne Collision Avoidance System : An aircraft system based on secondary surveillance radar (SSR) transponder signals which operates independently of ground-based equipment to provide advice to the pilot on potential conflicting aircraft that are equipped with SSR transponders.
• Aircraft : Any machine that can drive support in the atmosphere from the reactions of the air other than the reactions of the air against the earth's surface.
• Aircraft Address : A unique combination of 24 bits available for assignment to an aircraft for the purpose of air-ground communications, navigation and surveillance.
• Aircraft Approach Category (USA TERPS) : A grouping of aircraft based on a speed of Vref, if specified, or if Vref is not specified, 1.3*Vso at the maximum certificated landing weight. Vref, Vso, and the maximum certificated landing weight are those values as established for the aircraft by the certification authority of the country of registry. An aircraft shall fit in only one category. If it is necessary to maneuver at speeds in excess of the upper limit of a speed range for a category, the minimums for the next higher category must be used. For example, an aircraft which falls in Category A, but is circling to land at a speed in excess of 91 knots, should use the approach Category B minimum when circling to land.
