• Special Use Airspace : 항공기의 활동의 특성 때문에 활동이 제한되어야 하는 지구 표면상의 지역으로 식별되는 한정된 크기의 공역 및/또는 그러한 항공기 활동의 일부가 아닌 항공기 운용에 제한이 부여될 수 있는 지표면상의 지역으로 식별되는 한정된 크기의 공역. 특수 사용 공역의 유형은 다음과 같음.

  a. Alert Area (USA) - 항공기에 위험하지 않은 조종사 훈련 활동이나 비정상적인 공중 활동을 포함하는 공역. 경계 구역(alert area)은 이 지역에서 훈련하고 있지 않은 조종사에게 정보를 제공하기 위해 차트에 표시됨. Alert area 내의 모든 활동은 연방 항공 규정(FAR)에 따라 수행되며, 이 공역에 있는 조종사뿐만 아니라 공역을 통과하는 조종사도 충돌 방지에 대해 동등한 책임이 있음.

  b. Controlled Firing Area (USA) - 비참여 항공기에 대한 위험을 제거하고 지상에 있는 사람과 재산의 안전을 보장하기 위해 통제되는 조건 하에서 활동이 수행되는 공역.

  c. Danger Area (ICAO) - 항공기의 비행에 위험한 활동이 지정된 시간에 존재할 수 있는 정의된 차원의 공역. 

  d. Military Operations Area (MOA) (USA) - MOA는 IFR traffic으로부터 특정 군사 활동을 분리하고 군사 활동이 수행되는 곳에서 VFR traffic을 식별하기 위해 Class A airspace 외곽에 설치된 공역.

  e. Prohibited Area (ICAO) - 항공기의 비행이 금지되는 국가의 지역이나 영해 위에 있는 정의된 차원의 공역.  //  Prohibited Area (USA) -  FAR Part 73에 따라 지정된 공역으로, 사용 기관의 허가 없이는 누구도 항공기를 운항할 수 없는 공역.

  f. Restricted Area (ICAO) - 특정 조건에 따라 항공기의 비행이 제한되는 국가의 육지 지역이나 영해 위에 정의된 차원의 공역.  //  Restricted Area (USA) - Part 73에 따라 설계된 공역은 항공기의 비행이 완전히 금지되지는 않지만 제한의 대상이 될 수 있음. 대부분의 restricted area는 공동 사용으로 활용되도록 지정되어 있으며, 해당 구역의 IFR/VFR 운항은 관장 ATC 시설에 의해 승인될 수 있음.  Restricted Area는 enroute chart에 표시됨. 공동 사용이 허가된 경우, ATC 관제 시설의 명칭도 표시됨. 

  g. Warning Area (USA) - 미국 해안선으로부터 3NM 범위에서 정의된 크기의 공역으로, 비참여 항공기에 위험을 줄 수 있는 활동을 포함. 이러한 warning area의 목적은 비참여 조종사에게 잠재적인 위험을 경고하는 것. Warning area는 국내 해역 또는 공해상, 혹은 두 곳 모두에 위치할 수 있음.

• Special Use Airspace : Airspace of defined demensions identified by an area on the surface of the earth wherein activities must be confined because of their nature and/or wherein limitations may be imposed upon aircraft operations that are not a part of those activities. Types of special use airspace are:

  a. Alert Area (USA) - Airspace which may contain a high volume of pilot training activities or an unusual type of aerial activity, neither of which is hazardous to aircraft. Alert Areas are depicted on aeronautical charts for the information of nonparticipating pilots. All activities within an Alert Area are conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, and pilots of participating aircraft as well as pilots transiting the area are equally responsible for collision avoidance.

  b. Controlled Firing Area (USA) - Airspace wherin activities are conducted under conditions so controlled as to eliminate hazards to non participating aircraft and to ensure the safety of persons and property on the ground.

  c. Danger Area (ICAO) - An airspace of defined dimensions within which activities dangerous to the flight of aircraft may exist at specified times.

  d. Military Operations Area (MOA) (USA) - A MOA is airspace established outside of a Class "A" airspace area to separate or segregate certain nonhazardous military activities from IFR traffic and to identify VFR traffic where these activities are conducted.

  e. Prohibited Area (ICAO) - An airspace of defined dimensions, above the land areas or territorial waters of a State, within which the flight of aircraft is prohibited.  //  Prohibited Area (USA) - Airspace designated under FAR Part 73 within which no person may operation an aircraft without the permission of the using agency. 

  f. Restricted Area (ICAO) - An airspace of defined dimensions, above the land areas or territorial waters of a State, within which the flight of aircraft is restricted in accordance with certain specified conditions.  //  Restricted Area (USA) - Airspace designed under Part 73, within which the flight of aircraft, while not wholly prohibited, is subject to restriction. Most restricted areas are designated joint use and IFR/VFR operations in the area may be authorized by the controlling ATC facility when it is not being utilized by the using agency. Restricted areas are depicted on enroute charts. Where joint use is authorized, the name of the ATC controlling facility is also shown.

  g. Warning Area (USA) - A warning area is airspace of defined dimensions from 3NM outward from the coast of the United States, that contains activity that may be hazardous to nonparticipating aircraft. The purpose of such warning areas is to warn nonparticipating pilots of the potential danger. A warning area may be located over domestic or international waters or both.
