• Maximum Authorized Altitude (MAA) : 공역 구조 또는 항로 구간에서 최대 활용 가능한 고도 또는 flight level를 나타내는 공표된 고도. [이 고도는 연방 항로, 제트 항로, 지역 항법, 저고도 및 고고도 항로, 항법 보조 시설의 신호 수신을 보장할 수 있도록 계획된 MEA를 위한 기타 직항로에서 가장 높은 고도임.]
• Medium Frequency (MF) : 300kHz~3 MHz 사이의 주파수 대역.
• Meteorological Authority : 체약 국가를 대표해 국제 항행 항공용 기상 업무를 제공하거나 기상 업무의 제공을 주관하는 당국.
• Meteorological Bulletin : 적절한 표제와 기상 정보를 포함하는 회보.
• Meteorological Information : 현존하거나 예상되는 기상 상태에 관련한 기상 관측 보고, 분석, 예보 및 기타 서술.
• Meteorological Office : 국제 항공 항행용 기상업무를 제공하기 위해 설치한 사무소.
• Meteorological Report : 특정한 시간에 특정한 장소에서 관측한 기상상태에 관한 서술.
• Meteorological Satellite : 기상을 관측하고 그 관측 내용을 지구로 전송하는 인공위성.
• Military Operations Area (MOA) (USA) : [see SPECIAL USE AIRSPACE (SUA)].
• Minimum Crossing Altitude (MCA) : 특정 fix에서 항공기가 보다 높은 MEA의 방향으로 진행할 때 통과해야 하는 가장 낮은 고도. 
• Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) (FAA) : 계기 접근 절차에 명시된 최저 고도로, MSL 위 feet로 표시되며, 조종사가 heliport 또는 활주로에 착륙하고자 visual reference를 볼 때까지 final approach 또는 circle-to-land 중 하강이 허가됨. 
• Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) or Minimum Descent Height (MDH) (ICAO) : 비정밀 접근 또는 선회 접근 시에 시각 참조물 없이는 더 이상 밑으로 강하하면 안 되는 어느 특정의 고도 또는 높이.

* Note 1 : MDA는 MSL를 기준으로 하며 MDH는 공항 표고(aerodrome elevation) 또는 공항 표고보다 2m (7ft) 이상 낮은 경우 threshold elevation을 기준으로 함. 선회 접근을 위한 MDH는 공항 표고를 기준으로 함.

 

* Note 2 : 필수적인 시각 참조물(the required visual reference)은 원하는 비행경로와 관련하여 조종사가 항공기 위치 및 자세 변화에 따른 강하율을 평가하기에 충분한 시간 동안 보여야 하는 시각적 보조 장비 또는 접근 지역의 지형을 의미함. 선회 접근의 경우 필수적인 시각 참조물은 활주로 주변 환경임.

 

* Note 3 : 두 표현을 모두 사용할 때 편의를 위해 "Minimum descent altitude/height"를 줄여 "MDA/H" 형태로 작성할 수 있음.

• Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) (FAA) : Is the lowest altitude specified in an instrument approach procedure, expressed in feet above mean sea level, to which descent is authorized on final approach or during circle-to-land maneuvering until the pilot sees the required visual references for the heliport or runway of intended landing.
• Minimum Descent Altitude (MDA) or Minimum Descent Height (MDH) (ICAO) : A sepcified altitude or height in a non-precision approach or circling approach below which descent must not be made without the required visual reference.

* Note 1 : Minimum descent altitude (MDA) is referenced to mean sea level and minimum descent height (MDH) is referenced to the aerodrome elevation or to the threshold elevation if that is more than 2m (7ft) below the aerodrome elevation. A minimum descent height for a circling approach is referenced to the aerodrome elevation.

 

* Note 2 : The required visual reference means that section of the visual aids or of the approach area which should have been in view for sufficient time for the pilot to have made an assessment of the aircraft position and rate of change of position, in relation to the desired flight path. In the case of a circling approach the required visual reference is the runway environment.

 

* Note 3 : For convenience when both expressions are used they may be written in the form "minimum descent altitude/height" abbreviated "MDA/H."
